PRINCE CHARLIE AND MRS ROBERTS

Got my wheels back and so far so good. 40 miles and not a loose spoke.Training has been difficult last few days due to weather and my war wounds playing up( 2 knees and a hip!!!) Looking for a diy surgeon who could do a kitchen top hip replacement any evening next week.Fell of my bike tonight on the infamous Llangower Bridge( pont wan*) but got patched up by a passing scarlet o'hara as you can see.

The whisky sponsor called by the house with a bottle of Prince Charlie to help with the pain. I'm going to save it for Johno'groats.
Got a lovely letter from a Mrs Roberts and a cheque for £10. No address to reply back to so "Thank you very much Mrs Roberts" wherever you are.(Its my intention to write a thank you to all individual sponsors whatever the amount)
Following various e mails and phonecalls and chats with LEJOG "veterans" I have decided on a few action plans
1. To beg steal or borrow a complete spare bike ( this will allow me a backup bike and allow any of my backup team to keep me company for a few miles a day.

2To try the A30 and as a rule stick to A roads as much as possible.

3Get my weight down to 141/2 stone( need to lose about 1 stone HELP !!!!! )

Got in touch with a company that specialise in vehicle tracking devices and there is a possibility of setting up a system so that Brian can track me daily on a laptop and local schools etc can keep track( help their geography!!)

MAPS AND WHISKY AND LYCRA

No Cycling today ( N0 wheels so cant go far anyway!!) My Sustrans maps for the first part Lands End to Bristol arrived today ( looks hilly and long?) Talked to a nice gentleman in Barmouth who had done LEJOG and he was very reassuring...NOT!!!! Told me it was long hard and no real pleasure apart from the last 50yads to John O Groats. Cheers.

Got a brilliant offer from a Michael Morris via e mail for some whisky to help with the pain. Not sure whether to drink it or rub it on my bottom!!! Thanks Richard for being the first with a practical donation. Now only need a bike and some nice yellow and pink tight lycra for the photoshoots!!!!

FAT MAN ON A BIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOCALS WHISHING ME LUCK DURING A TRAINING RUN!!

Having started to upgrade my bike for training ( Might have to do the ride on it if i I dont get a better offer) I purchased special handbuilt lightweight wheels ( not cheap) First ride 110 miles in the Gran Fondo Cymru they both fell apart. Spokes came off!!! Sent them back got another set. Guess what? Yep 10 miles round Llyn Tegid ( Bala Lake) rear wheel fell apart.

This morning talked with the wheel builder from Manchester diagnosis................ "Your too Fat mate"!!!!!!! I Dont belive it!! He said the wheels were built for a typical cyclist up to 13 stone and not meant to cope with a 15 stone Sherman tank. Said he was going to build me a new set to cater for muscle!! IS IT ME?????????

Any advice from fellow fat cyclist really appreciated

Well things are moving along slowly. Think its going to take longer to set up web blog and start collecting some cash than actually doing the ride.Route is now 90% sorted and hope to have it up on here next week.I am trying to sort out a detour so that I can pop in to Southport to see Yogi. Probably need his bed for a kip by then!!Starting to beg steal or borrow bits and pices for the trip now so if there is anything on this list that you think that you can help with then please get in touch............ People have already started to help and its fantastic to see the support for yogi. Sponsorship has already started to come in and I will post a list up soon...................

Posted by Dilwyn Morgan on June 11, 2007 10:33 PM
Following a sudden rush of blood and a really Senior moment I decided that I was going to raise as much money as possible to help Yogi ( I must really ask him why they call him yogi!!) by cycling from Lands End to John O Groats. Affectionatly known from now on as LEJOG.
